Jonathan Weng, Founder and Chairman of NVMUN
Jonathan Weng
Founder and Chairman

Jonathan Weng is the Founder and Chairman of North Vancouver Model United Nations (NVMUN). A 2026 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Secondary School, he established the conference to provide students on the North Shore with a local platform for rigorous debate, diplomatic engagement, and collaborative problem-solving.

Jonathan’s introduction to Model United Nations was initially reluctant, but the experience soon developed into a lasting commitment. In Grade 10, he founded his school’s Model UN club, which continues to operate today. Having served on conference dais teams, he went on to become NVMUN’s inaugural Secretary-General in 2025, overseeing the development of the conference from its earliest stages. These experiences fostered his appreciation for the organisational discipline, strategic planning, and institutional stewardship required to build a sustainable academic conference.

Beyond Model UN, Jonathan is engaged in global health advocacy and healthcare innovation. He founded Music Bridge Foundation Canada and the Youth Advocates for Global Health Association, initiatives focused on community service, health equity, and healthcare access. He has also developed a modular solar-powered telemedicine device intended for use in resource-limited settings, reflecting his interest in applying technological innovation to practical healthcare challenges.

Jonathan is an incoming Bachelor of Dental Health Science/Master of Dentistry (BDHS/MDent) candidate at Griffith University, where he will commence his studies in February 2027. His academic interests centre on dentistry, preventive care, and equitable access to healthcare.

As Founder and Chairman, Jonathan is committed to the long-term development of NVMUN. His ambition is to establish the conference as a leading regional institution, ultimately expanding it into a professionally organised, multi-day conference while preserving its accessibility and educational purpose. Through this work, he hopes to build an enduring platform for intellectual inquiry, diplomatic engagement, and the development of principled future leaders.
